How do you feel when you see or wear red? Does it energize you? or does it scare you a little?
Think about what red means to you. Do you have red in your wardrobe or in your house? What red food do you include in your diet?
Is Red Your Color?
Color Psychology: If red is your favorite color, here are some traits that you may recognize:
- You are an extrovert, optimistic, courageous and confident.
- All reds crave attention – other people are drawn to the vitality and sense of excitement you emit.
- You are ambitious and competitive, you have a passion and enthusiasm for life and are not afraid to pursue your dreams and goals.
- Patience is not one of your strong points. You always seem to be in a hurry, wanting to get everything done right now.
Positive: Action and energy, assertive and confident, energizing, stimulating, exciting, powerful, passionate, stimulating and driven, courageous and strong, spontaneous and determined.
Negative: Aggressive or domineering, over-bearing, angry and quick-tempered, ruthless, fearful and intolerant, rebellious and obstinate, resentful.
Chakra Energy: Red is the color of the base chakra, associated to the element ‘earth’. It represents connection and preservation. “I have” is the vibration of this chakra. You can read a little more about chakras here and we dive more deeply into color and its association with our chakra system in my online class “Chakra Color Art Journal“
Colour Therapy: Red is applied to the body to warm and improve circulation of oxygen into muscles, which in turn encourages extension and movement. The colour red also stimulates the kidneys and adrenal glands causing them to release adrenalin into the blood stream.
Wear Red: When you want to draw attention to yourself. Wearing red will make you stand out from the crowd, but avoid red if you are nervous, self-conscious or need to invite more calming energy into your life.
Decorate with Red: Add red into rooms where you want to invite more energy in or require warmth or physical activity. These are usually a playroom, hallway or kitchen. Red in the bedroom may generate passion, but it might also disturb sleep as it is too energizing on the physical body. If you would like to add red in your bedroom, try accents such as throw pillows, blankets or other ornaments in this color.
